IRC Chat Possibility?

I've heard of this chat system called IRC chat which is pretty much the best around for browsers. But I've actually never tried or used one. This chat box is really annoying. It's telling users that aren't really there, there. Not cool. I think we should have a chat system that really works efficiently or not have anything at all & utilize the forum more. I don't know, just a thought.

IRC would be the same way, I have a JS keeping people logged into chat instead of having it sign them out when they're away for 30mins. IRC chat would be equivalent to what we have now. I could disable that function of the chat easy, but then we'd go back to having a ghost chat room (i.e. random member logs into chat, sees no-one, logs out, rinse, repeat)
